- A slurry coat is a good way to increase the
bond of the repair material to the substrate.
The slurry coat is simply the repair mortar with
additional water, mixed to a batter-like consistency.
This is brush applied to the repair zone including
the edges. It is important to apply the repair mortar
before the slurry coat dries. The optimum time
to apply a material to the slurry is when the slurry
has a dull sheen. Do not apply the repair material
when the slurry is glossy (wet) or when it has
dried to a completely flat finish. The open time
of slurry coat is about 10 - 15 minutes.
If the slurry coat dries remove it and re-apply.
- Conpro Primer and Conpro Weld are formulated
to increase bond and provide up to 72 hours
open time before applying the repair material.
This makes the timing of the placement of the
repair mortar less critical than the slurry coat.
- Rebar must be cleaned of all scale and rust.
The concrete cover must be removed to a point
where the exposed rebar does not show signs
of corrosion. When using ECB it is not necessary
for the rebar to be cleaned to bright metal.
It is necessary to remove all rust and scaling.

- Most substrates are very absorptive.
Pre-soak the repair zone prior to placing a repair
mortar. Remember that wind as well as heat cause
rapid evaporation. Saturated Surface Dry (SSD) is
the proper procedure. This means that the substrate
is saturated with water but there is no standing water
in the repair zone. The edges of the repair zone
must also be saturated to prevent perimeter
cracking.
